The Oshara Model: Sustainability for Mainstream America

NVI is dedicated to educating the public on sustainable living models that can help decrease a family's impact on the environment while reducing energy costs and enhancing quality of life. The Oshara Village model is one such design aimed at making sustainability possible for mainstream Americans, by reclaiming all wastewater for irrigation, requiring Energy Star appliances and encouraging solar energy for  domestic hot water heating, space heating and producing grid-tied electricity. This 10 minute video describes the New Urbanist context and summarizes the Oshara energy-use studies commissioned by NVI.

NVI encourages you to submit videos or information for posting on our website describing other sustainable development projects, systems or technologies from private or public sector groups and nonprofits. Please submit links to videos to diego@newvillageinstitute.org.
