La Cuesta Fire – Update 4/12/24

Date/Time/Situation: The La Cuesta Fire was discovered on April 12 at 1:45 p.m. and is located just north of Alto. The fire is estimated at 25 acres and is burning on private land in grass and pinyon/juniper. Two structures were threatened; however the fire’s progress was halted at 3:16 p.m. and resources are now proceeding with mop-up. The cause of the fire is under investigation. This will be the final notification unless there are significant changes.

Resources: More than 50 personnel responded from NM Forestry Division, Lincoln County, Village of Ruidoso, the US Forest Service, local volunteer fire departments and the Globe Hotshots.

Weather: Currently, the temperature is 70 degrees with winds from the southwest at 5 mph. Relative humidity is 11%. This evening calls for a low around 43. South wind 15-20 mph, decreasing to 10-15 mph after midnight. Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high near 68. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10-15 mph increasing to 20-25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. The area will be under a Fire Weather Watch starting Monday, April 15 from 10AM-10PM.

Evacuations: No evacuations at this time.
