Beneficial Insects

COPIA - the American Center for Wine, Food and Arts in Napa, California - maintains a 3-1/2 acre Edible Gardens with a traditional grid pattern filled with organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. The Edible Gardens are cared for using organic and biodynamic methods, without synthetic chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. Director Eierman describes using an insectary to attract "desirable insects" and includes the COPIA listing of beneficial insects and host plants.

Trees for New Mexico

Watering Trees

American Forests Historic Tree Nursery - Offers trees that have been grown from cuttings of trees that are in some way connected to people and events in our nation's history. Example: plant a black locust propagated from the tree at Independence Park in Philadelphia. Part of American Forests, a conservation group that champions trees and their effects on our environment, offers educational resources and created the National Register of Historic Trees.

New Mexico State Forestry Division - This year the New Mexico State Forestry Division will offer for sale more than 150,000 seedlings to interested landowners who want to plant trees for conservation purposes. For well over 40 years the division has offered low cost seedlings to landowners to plant for reforestation, erosion control, windbreaks, or Christmas tree plantations. Since 1960, over four million trees have been planted throughout New Mexico that were purchased through this program.
