Description: ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR TODAY FROM 1 PM MDT UNTIL 8 PM MDT FOR EASTERN NEW MEXICO AND THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FOR SATURDAY BETWEEN NOON AND 8 PM FOR THE EAST CENTRAL PLAINS DUE TO STRONG WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .Critical fire weather conditions return across portions of central New Mexico and all of eastern New Mexico today. Gusty west winds will meet with minimum relative humidity in the low teens in the afternoon, with conditions tapering off in the evening. Another storm system will approach New Mexico on Saturday which will bring another round of critical fire weather conditions for the East Central Plains. Strong southwest winds will return while humidity readings dip down below 15 percent once again. Improving conditions are expected Saturday evening. * AREA AND TIMING...This includes the Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), Sandia and Manzano Mountains (Zone 124), Central Highlands (Zone 125), Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), and Northeast Plains (Zone 104) this afternoon and evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...West 20 to 30 mph with gusts near 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values between 9 and 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
